چکیده

Sir, Subdural hematoma has a higher mortality rate with hemodialysis patients than the normal population but it rarely occurs in association with chronic peritoneal dialysis. We describe for the first time a case of chronic renal failure on CAPD for last two years who developed spontaneous subdural hematoma, managed successfully with surgical treatment. The development of subdural hematoma in the course of hemodialysis treatment has been well documented in the literature1,2 and its neurological symptoms may be similar to those of dialysis disequilibrium syndrome, dialysis dementia and hypertensive encephalopathy. To the best of our knowledge, however, no case of subdural haematoma in the course of CAPD has been reported in the medical literature.3-5

Paediatric continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis.

Ten children in end-stage renal failure were treated by continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD). This represents a total of 3.4 patient years. Biochemical control was good, and parent and patient acceptability high. Peritonitis was the chief complication, but after the institution of a specific CAPD education and training programme the incidence declined 10-fold. We regard CAPD as an e...

Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis—a guide to imaging appearances and complications

OBJECTIVES The aim of this article is to review and illustrate the typical imaging findings for a patient on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and its complications, examining the uses and limitations of multimodality imaging. BACKGROUND CAPD is a commonly and increasingly used method of renal replacement therapy in end-stage renal failure (ESRF). From the set-up and insertion ...

Peritoneal dialysis related infections: challenges ahead

Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) is now a standard therapeutic modality of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) (1). About 80% of ESRD patients in Hong Kong are treated by CAPD. Peritoneal dialysis (PD) related infections, notably peritonitis, are major complications leading to patient morbidity, mortality and technique failure. In this issue, we have two papers addressing these probl...

Relapsing Peritonitis Caused by Bordetella bronchiseptica in Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis Patient: A Case Report

Bordetella (B) bronchiseptica is a common veterinary pathogen, but has rarely been implicated in human infections. Most patients with B. bronchiseptica infections are compromised clinically such as in patients with a malignancy, AIDS, malnutrition, or chronic renal failure. We experienced a case of relapsing peritonitis caused by B. bronchiseptica associated with continuous ambulatory peritonea...
